Getting Involved
How to Get Plugged In
The Importance of Fellowship
In Christ, there are no strangers but instead brothers and sisters. Ephesians 2:19-21 reminds us of this, "Now, therefore you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit." Christ desires for us to find our place in the fellowship - we are the living stones that build His house.
The Basics
The first step is to say "Hi" to pastor Brett after a service. He loves to meet people at the fellowship. Our Elders are also available for prayer, to answer questions or just to chat. If you are looking for a way to further connect, there are several ways to do this.
Home Groups
These small groups meet on Sunday evenings in many locations around the greater Portland area. The purpose of these groups is to provide a friendly, informal time to truly fellowship in a comfortable surrounding. It is a unique opportunity to interact with other brothers and sisters as time is spent in worship, prayer, communion and discussing the morning’s teaching. Typically these groups meet in people’s homes and each one has its own feel. Home Groups range in size from 8 to 20 people and some offer childcare. You are welcome to visit the various Home Groups to find one that fits!
Events
Whether it is retreats, Family Camp, rafting, BBQs or the infamous Turkey Bowl, there are plenty of chances to meet members of the body outside of our Sundays and Wednesdays together. Watch for information in the church bulletin or on the calendar page.
Serving
Another way to get involved is to serve. There are several ministries at Athey Creek where the focus is on meeting the needs of others.
These are all ways to be a part of what the Lord is doing at Athey. You can call the church office for more information on any opportunities to serve.
If you are new to the fellowship, we invite you to simply enjoy the Lord and take in the Word for a few months. We hope this will be a time of refreshment for you, allowing you to get a feel for our flavor and understand the ‘why’ behind much of what we do.
Children’s Ministry
If you would like to get involved in this ministry, please put your name and phone number on the sign-up card, which you will find at the Children’s Ministry Information Table (located in the foyer at church). Or feel free to call the church office at 971-327-2120.
Meals Ministry
This is a network of people who provide meals for brand new mothers or for those who are ill or have just had surgery. (If you or someone you know in the fellowship is having surgery, please let us know!) If you are interested in cooking up some dinners to deliver, please give us a call at the church office at (971) 327-2120.
Set-Up/Tear-Down
Because we meet in a middle school, we are a "port-a-church." From setting up chairs to arranging the nursery, there’s plenty to do. If you would like to help, show up on Sunday mornings at 6:00 AM or Wednesdays at 6:00 PM for set-up or just stick around at the end of services to help us pack it all back up!
Parking
We stroll the parking lot during services for security purposes. If you are interested in getting involved in the security rotation, please call Derek Glos at (503)691-2069.
